At Fostering Talent, our mission goes beyond just providing assistance to youth in the Foster Care System. As a faith-based organization, we aim to embody Christ’s love in everything we do. We understand that it can be challenging for young people in the Foster Care System to navigate their way through life, which is why we provide comprehensive support to help them overcome any obstacles they may face. From providing academic support to fostering extracurricular talents, Fostering Talent is committed to equipping young people with the skills and tools they need to thrive. Our approach is holistic, meaning that we take into account the unique needs and circumstances of each individual that we work with, so that we can tailor our scholarships to effectively meet their needs. We believe that every young person deserves a chance at a successful future, and we are dedicated to making that a reality for as many youth as possible.
Fostering Talent was started in 2022 by Rachel Weinhold, nearly 2 years after the initial idea came to her. Inspiration came in 2018, after meeting many amazing people who had served as foster parents. A few years later, inspiration struck again when she met some amazing students who discovered that, despite their apparent lack of success in school, a bit of passion could make learning fun. She marveled at their curiosity, observing them becoming passionate about a wide variety of subjects, and activities. That’s when she realized that now, more than ever, kids need to be allowed to develop their interests — not only in various academic studies, but in sports, music.
We provide the tools, resources, and support needed to empower these young individuals to pursue their interests, discover their potential, and build a brighter future. Here’s why we do what we do:
Unlocking Potential: We recognize that hidden talents and untapped potential lie within every child. By removing financial and logistical barriers, we enable them to explore a world of opportunities they might not have otherwise experienced.
Boosting Confidence: Participating in extracurricular activities can boost self-esteem and confidence in children and teens. It instills a sense of accomplishment and belonging, fostering a positive outlook on life.
Building Skills: Extracurricular activities offer valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, time management, and discipline. These skills not only enrich the present but also prepare these young individuals for a successful future.
Enhancing Well-being: Engaging in hobbies and interests provides a sense of fulfillment and joy. It can be a powerful tool for emotional and psychological well-being, helping children and teens navigate the challenges of life.

Founder
Her desire to help people and be of service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Rachel eventually ended up attending Concordia University Nebraska where she studied both education and theology. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a specialist degree to serve as a Director of Christian Education she spent 3 years serving in the church as a director of Family Life Ministry. During this time she met many people who had been foster parents, and became inspired by their stories. She knew eventually she wanted to work with kids in the foster care system, and in 2018 she contemplated leaving the church for non-profit work.
