Fostering Talent was started in 2022 by Rachel Weinhold, nearly 2 years after the initial idea came to her. Inspiration came in 2018, after meeting many amazing people who had served as foster parents. A few years later, inspiration struck again when she met some amazing students who discovered that, despite their apparent lack of success in school, a bit of passion could make learning fun. She marveled at their curiosity, observing them becoming passionate about a wide variety of subjects, and activities. That’s when she realized that now, more than ever, kids need to be allowed to develop their interests — not only in various academic studies, but in sports, music. In 2020, when teachers and students alike were forced to adjust to virtual learning, lack of access to resources created even more barriers for children’s success. This was especially true for those in the Foster Care System. Finding a way to provide resources for these kids to gain access to the types of classes, lessons, and camps that would allow them to foster their talents in whatever their passions happen to be seemed like the best solution.
Rachel began sharing the idea with her friends, and, in the summer of 2021, Rachel left teaching, took a job in marketing, and began building the skills she would need to turn this idea into reality. A year later, two of her college friends – Courtney Christoffers and Emily Simonsen – agreed to help. Courtney brought the project to the attention of her friend Benjamin Henry. With a full board in place, Rachel’s dream was about to become reality. Fostering Talent Inc was incorporated in August of 2022 and, after 6 Months of hard work, we are ready to launch!
