Board of Directors

Meet Our Team

Rachel Weinhold

President
Born to a pastor in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Rachel grew up in her local church. Her desire to help people and be of service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Rachel eventually ended up attending Concordia University Nebraska where she studied both education and theology. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a specialist degree to serve as a Director of Christian Education she spent 3 years serving in the church as a director of Family Life Ministry. During this time she met many people who had been foster parents, and became inspired by their stories. She knew eventually she wanted to work with kids in the foster care system, and in 2018 she contemplated leaving the church for non-profit work.
While the initial idea was sparked during this time Rachel had other lessons to learn. Rather than follow her plan to volunteer with nonprofits in her area Rachel felt that God was leading her to transition into a traditional classroom teaching role. During the next 3 years she observed some amazing students as they discovered that, despite their apparent lack of success in school, a bit of passion could make learning fun. She marveled at their curiosity, observing them becoming passionate about a wide variety of subjects, and activities. It finally became clear to her how all the pieces fit together. Her love for the Lord, passion for serving children in the foster care system, interest in non-profit work and her background in education all pointed to a greater mission. Her goal was to help children who lacked resources gain access to the types of classes, lessons, camps that would allow them to foster their talents in whatever their passions happen to be. In 2021 she left teaching and began to build her knowledge of marketing and running her own non-profit; Fostering Talent. Rachel is grateful for the support of her board, and cannot wait to see where God takes this ministry.
Currently Rachel lives in the St. Louis Metropolitan area where she enjoys spending time with her family. Her greatest joy is being a godmother to her niece, and her cousin’s daughter both of whom share a birthday month. She loves watching baseball and never passes up a chance to go to a Cardinals game. In her free time she sings in the church choir and volunteers as a part of the Family Life Council.

Emily Simonsen

Vice President
The first of 4 children, Emily was born in Nebraska then spent the next 7 years of her childhood in Arkansas before her parents moved them back to Nebraska to be closer to family. She fell in love with nonprofits when she was a teenager after being moved by the inspirational information and presentations by representatives from To Write Love On Her Arms, Clothe Your Neighbor As Yourself (now Neighborly), and Compassion International at a small, local concert series. After this, Emily knew she wanted to work in humanitarianism and worked to pursue a degree in church work. After college, she married and moved to rural Nebraska where she found a job with a FQHC. There she is happy to spend her days providing support and assistance for a variety of patients, primarily focusing on behavioral health service needs.
Through volunteer work and a variety of jobs, Emily has seen first – hand how financial assistance programs like Fostering Talent can be beneficial for those striving to improve their quality of life. She recognizes that when youth are able to participate in academic and extracurricular activities, it provides a variety of valuable opportunities for them to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, resilience, good sportsmanship, inclusion, sense of community, and more. According to some researchers, these opportunities can even help students improve their grades, achieve higher test scores, complete higher levels of education, have more consistent school attendance, and higher self – esteem. Who wouldn’t want to support those positive engagements? Emily is proud to be a part of Fostering Talent and is looking forward to working with other philanthropists that also have a desire to assist in eliminating the financial barrier preventing youth from participating in academic and extracurricular activities.
Emily lives in rural Nebraska. She enjoys spending her free time slowly sewing quilts, participating as an “okay-ish” crossfitter and runner, trying to keep her plants alive, attending trivia night as moral support for her team “Quizzie McGuire,” starting Pinterest inspired DIY projects (and mostly finishing them), and most importantly, quality time with her husband (pictured below with their 7th godchild), 2 dogs, and 2 cats.
Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Benjamin Henry II

Treasurer
With 3 sisters and 4 brothers, only one of them biologically related, Henry’s heart to help those from non nuclear families started at a young age. He is thankful for his mother Diane who came into his life at the age of 11 to walk alongside his brokenness. As time went on he grew an excitement to experience the abundant life God has given through the Gift of His Son which has created many opportunities to find his place in the Kingdom. As a youth Henry was a Jr. board member with Barebacks And Bells Inc (BAB) which provided equine services to at-risk youth. As an adult Henry served BAB as a board member, vice president, and president. Henry is a proud veteran who earned two stars on his Afghanistan Campaign Medal; and has transitioned into the life of a network engineer. “I’m looking forward to serving Fostering Talent and the community it will champion” – Benjamin R.
